Capturing Nature in Mixed Media

What you see is colored by your life experiences. We bring ourselves in viewing art; we express ourselves in creating art. There are so many feelings: sadness, anger, peacefulness, wonderment, movement or stillness. Maybe we are overwhelmed, conflicted, quiet or bored, but… ART INVOKES A RESPONSE.

I studied art academically at a young age, but then chose a technical career path in Mathematics and Computer Science through my graduate studies. My understanding of color and design and my scientific expertise synenergizedto create an ability to work with electronic tools with speed and excellence.

My favorite media are watercolor paints, pen & ink, Conte crayons & pastels & chalk, pencil drawings and collage. I continue to pursue my curiosity about art and the world with courses, like “Flower & Tree Identification and Bird Watching,” at New York University’s School of Continuing Education. I am a member of both World Wildlife Association and Museum of Natural History. The Continuing Education program at Parsons School of Design of the New School University is perfect for my artistic pursuits and busy schedule at this time. Perhaps my most ambitious study-to-date is learning the “interior-decorating art” of texturing materials & Faux-Bois at “The Finishing School” in Floral Park, New York. To add interest and diversity to my works, I am studying several Contemplative Religions and holistic Healing Techniques.

I enjoy describing the different views I have of our world. I wear glasses, so when I take them off I do see quite differently! I’ve experimented with reflections in glass, geometric shapes, and different media to see how my artwork and perceptions change.

Mirian Pollard sums up my wonderment well when she wrote in her book,The Listening God: “I used to wonder why the sea was blue at a distance and green up close and colorless, for that matter, in your hands.”
