The fundamental aim that drives my work is to promote a highly personal viewpoint through developing exploratory media. The primary motivation behind the subsequent pieces owes much to an affliction that blighted my sight some five years ago. Such was the level of altered perception imposed that conventional articulation soon became exhausted and so I began to embark on a method of enhanced visual communication. Ceaseless experimentation with industrial chemicals and fluids eventually led to a refined process that closely resembled my personal struggle to engage myself within distorted perspective.
There are many unusual facets to the collective works that invariably provoke complimentary astonishment and often gives way to exploring the exposed textures via the sense of touch. An immediate impression of disturbed water is conveyed courtesy of the extensive light refraction that ricochets across the array of pronounced droplets. These frequently reworked surfaces encapsulate a rich pallette of vibrant hues that are reminiscent of tranquil waters bathed in an almost Equatorial light. Viewing the tropical fauna evident in South-East Asia undoubtedly left me with the desire to emulate the living colours that had enlightened me so much on my travels.
Titles such as 'La petite mort' and 'My secret Garden' hint that a cherished moment is being shared through the ambiguous overlapping form. Surges of elliptical liquid provoke a sensation of movement, galvanising the remit to seek out beauty within an unfamiliar environment. Postcards from behind the mind's eye. |
